Building Systems, Construction and Design: Residential

Description:

Residential properties rely on a set of complex systems interacting with each other to provide optimal safety and comfort for their residents. In this course, students will gain a working knowledge of the physical aspects of building systems and real estate construction for residential properties. By focusing on building systems, including the building envelope, water and plumbing, electricity, lighting, and heating/ventilating/air conditioning (HVAC), students will build a solid understanding of how to support the development of a healthy building, how to run cost- and energy-efficient operations, and how to prevent, identify and trouble-shoot any system-related issues. Students will also develop an understanding of material selection, construction type, and other material aspects of construction.

Procurement and Supplier Management in Real Estate

Fostering relationships with a wide variety of suppliers is an essential component of real estate development and management. In this course, the students will learn the foundations of identifying and managing suppliers to successfully lead real estate procurement processes and negotiations related to development, leases and acquisitions of residential and commercial real estate. Sustainable property development and management maximizes the conservation of local environment and enhances quality of life.
