Program description - January 2023

Completion of this three-year program will allow students to obtain an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in the field of financial planning. The program will provide students with all of the technical educational requirements leading to the Qualified Associate Financial Planner™ designation through FP Canada™. Successful students will have gained the foundational knowledge to support their progress towards licensing examinations within the securities, mutual funds, and insurance industries in Canada. This progressive course of study combines courses designed at Conestoga with those originating from industry standard setting organizations to prepare students for career opportunities in banking, insurance, private wealth, brokerage and/or independent practice. Program graduates can apply directly to the third year of Conestoga College's Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) – Financial Services degree program and receive two years of credit towards the BCOMM degree program provided they achieve a 70% overall average. The Advanced Diploma Program continues to offer the FP Canada-approved Advanced Curriculum but does not satisfy the degree requirement necessary to obtain the Certified Financial Planner® designation (effective January 2020).

Note:

  • Students have the option to challenge the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and the Life Licensing Qualifying Program (LLQP) industry examinations, which provide credentials that are highly sought after by employers. There are additional fees associated with both industry examinations.
  • Advanced standing pathways are available for program graduates.
  • Graduates of this program can apply directly to the third year of Conestoga College's Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) – Financial Services degree program. Graduates of this diploma program will receive two years of credit towards the BCOMM degree program if they achieve a 70% overall average.
  • Graduates of our Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) – Financial Services degree program will be eligible to enrol in the CFP® Professional Education Program through FP Canada on the path to CFP certification.
