This course introduces the principles and practices of Statistical Quality Process Control within industrial and manufacturing settings. Successful completion of this course will enable students with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Data Collection and Data Analysis. Students will gain a solid understanding of the different types of distributions including the Normal Distribution, Exponential Distribution, Weibull Distribution Binomial Distribution, and Poisson Distribution. Students will also explore and conduct Hypothesis Testing for the Population Mean and Population Variance.Students will explore and interpret an array of control charts for variable data (X-bar and R charts, X-bar and S charts, and Individuals and Moving Range (I-MR) Chart, and control charts for discrete data (NP Chart, P Chart, C Chart, U Chart). Students will understand the difference between common cause and special cause variations and utilize the knowledge learned to reduce variation and improve manufacturing process capabilities.
Students will explore the concepts of process capability by calculating and interpreting process capability indices such as Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk to drive process improvement initiatives.
Through a combination of theoretical instruction, statistical analysis, and practical industry examples, students will synthesize their understanding of sampling methods, control charts, and process capability analysis to develop comprehensive quality control strategies to drive quality improvement initiatives and ensure product conformance to manufacturing requirements.

Manufacturing and Test Processes

This course provides an in-depth exploration of traditional and advanced manufacturing and test processes used in modern industrial applications. Students will learn a select range of manufacturing techniques, including metal stamping and forming, welding, extrusion, plastic moulding, casting, machining, and coating processes. Additionally, students will be exposed to the principles and applications of torque tools, coordinate measurement (CMM), and advanced/automated process inspection such as laser and vision systems with an emphasis on their importance for ensuring quality and precision in manufacturing and assembly. Students will be challenged to research and discuss the latest advancements in manufacturing and test technologies to establish a knowledge and comfort with their applications in various industries.
Through a combination of theoretical instruction, practical discussion, demos, and site visits, students will develop an industry-ready awareness and understanding of modern manufacturing and production facilities including the fabrication, assembly, and test equipment used and supported within.
