In this clinical course students will undertake comprehensive patient assessment and treatment in a supervised clinical environment. Students will be responsible for a limited case load facilitating the development of independent clinical abilities while ensuring that care provided is safe, effective, and ethical. In this way students will be able to reliably demonstrate behaviours consistent with the practice competencies and key performance indicators of the profession. Students will assess response to treatment and adjust based on outcomes with the goal of optimizing patient care. This course allows students to incorporate and demonstrate all previously acquired knowledge in the program.

The Patient Management 3 course is the third in a series of courses that is tightly integrated with the Massage Theory & Treatment, Pathophysiology and Therapeutic Exercise courses. In the Patient Management courses learners will cultivate clinical reasoning and therapeutic decision-making skills in a case specific context. Through comprehensive assessment as a component of the process, learners will develop the ability to determine appropriate interventions and treatment plans to address a variety of clinical presentations.

This course introduces nutrition with a focus on nutrients, dietary sources, and recommendations. Students will gain an appreciation for the critical role that proper nutrition plays in promoting and maintaining health and wellness throughout various stages of life. Students will reflect on nutrition and lifestyle factors that can influence professional practice.

This course is a continuation of Therapeutic Exercise 1 and will reinforce theory and application of various therapeutic exercise interventions. Students will continue to develop their abilities regarding exercise prescription in a regionally specific fashion to determine exercise protocols appropriate to a patient’s presentation and integrate them into the overall management plan.

This course builds off the knowledge in the previous research course. Students will conduct condition specific research. This will include a literary review to produce an evidence informed treatment plan. This plan will executed in an RMT directed integration lab to implement the findings with a client through a series of treatments.
