Description: This self-directed course focuses on introducing new students to the supports, services, and opportunities available at Conestoga College. By the end of this course, students will understand the academic expectations of the Conestoga learning environment, as well as the supports available to ensure their academic success. Students will also be able to identify on-campus services that support their health and wellness, and explore ways to get actively involved in the Conestoga community through co-curricular learning opportunities.

Description: Most business software is used in a network environment, meaning that application specialists and security analysts need to be able to use best industry practices in network administration in order to manage secure networks and provide secure delivery of applications. Through hands-on exercises, students study the management of user and group hierarchies, as well as the configuration of logical networks in order to design security solutions to protect business resources.

Description:

An important component of application and organizational security is the understanding of the rights and obligations of both the individual and the organization with respect to privacy and intellectual property. In this course students will explore ethics and law, including both Canadian law and the law of other jurisdictions, for the ways ethics and law inform the best practices of security professionals and organizations. Students will learn to assess the implications of new application development as well as the choice of supporting technologies, such as cloud computing, with respect to both vulnerabilities and liabilities of an organization. Students in this course will discuss topics such as Big Data, organized hacking, government surveillance, and industrial espionage.

Description:

This course will cover the principles of review, governance and controls in the context of proactive assessment of an organization's cybersecurity posture. Topics in this course will reinforce the importance of planning and ongoing assessment for compliance to industry and organization standards using best practice methodologies.

Description:

This course takes a strategy-based perspective on organizational cyber response, from a whole-company view down to the security operations centre (SOC) function. Discussion of stakeholder engagement throughout the organization is a key theme of this course. Skills to develop or enhance a SOC function in an organization are developed, with a focus on metrics, playbook development, the leveraging analytic sources, team management, and the use of various forms of assessment and response planning.

This course will cover the three basic tenets that are at the foundation of modern information security practices: confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Topics will include the historical background of Information security, encryption, data classification, and other related technical processes supporting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of infrastructure and systems.

This course is an introduction to a range of tools and platforms that are used to plan for, as well as respond to, cybersecurity events. Description: This course focuses on career management skills needed to navigate the evolving workplace. Students will evaluate their skills, attitudes, and expectations within their chosen careers and explore emerging trends in the workplace. Students will refine their networking strategies and create marketing documents to position them for success. Mock interviews will provide the opportunity for practice, feedback, and reflection as students prepare for future interviews. Students will explore communication strategies that support workplace success and advancement. By the end of this course, students will have created a personalized career management plan.

Description: This series of modules will prepare graduate certificate students for job searching for their co-op work terms with the guidance of a Co-op Advisor. Students will familiarize themselves with the co-operative education policies and procedures and will learn the expectations, rules, and regulations that apply in the workplace regarding social, organizational, ethical, and safety issues while deepening their awareness of self- reflective practices. Students will critically reflect on their skills, attitudes, and expectations and evaluate available opportunities in the workplace. Successful completion of these modules is a requirement for co-op eligibility.

A security operations centre (SOC) is a key process area for an organization’s day to day engagement with cybersecurity. This course provides instruction on skills for the cybersecurity operations analyst and those working in that role or otherwise developing those key employees. Topics covered range from continued assessment and measurement of defensive/response practices to triage, response execution, and overall event detection practices.

In this course the challenges in front of large enterprise organizations will be discussed in the effort to secure operations that have global reach.
