The theories behind creativity and ideation will be explored in this modified course. Students will draw inspiration from a variety of sources including psychology and the history of art and design. Research, brainstorming, lateral and divergent thinking, inspiration, writing, mind mapping, and drawing will be explored and utilized to generate ideas and solve design problems. Students will learn how to utilize the creative process to take an initial concept though to a finished form, which will contribute to the development of their personal portfolios. A variety of traditional and experimental media and techniques will be explored. Critical thinking skills will be integrated into discussion of design concepts and group critique.

In this modified course students will further develop drawing skill and continue to create more professional portfolio pieces with an emphasis on a variety of illustrative techniques. Traditional freehand drawing and painting media such as acrylic, watercolour, ink, pencil crayon, and conte are studied with more emphasis on self-exploration and inspiration from other artists. Students will also learn to use drafting tools to produce precision technical illustrations as well as proper perspective drawings. Students will understand the role of illustration as an effective visual communication tool in industry scenarios.

Introducing the legal system which governs personal and commercial relationships in Canada, this modified course provides knowledge of the basic legal concepts in order to gain insight into judicial reasoning. Areas covered range from contract law to real property and protection of creativity.

This modified course focuses on the skills needed to conduct a successful job search. Students will explore the labour market and identify trends that may impact their future careers. They will develop skills for an effective job search including networking, self-marketing documents and tools as well as interview skills. Mock interviews will provide the opportunity for practice, feedback and reflection as students prepare for future interviews. Students will develop a personalized job search plan to support their future careers.

In this modified course students will evaluate current social media platforms used in the broadcasting field. Examining how they are utilized for both corporate and personal goals, branding and communication practices. Content generation and audience engagement strategies will be developed, using hands-on practice in how to effectively use each social media platform to build a relationship that connects students with their on-air and online audiences.

This modified course explores the partnership between early years' professionals and the families of children enrolled in early learning and care, education, and family-focused programs. Students will examine the structural, cultural, and developmental diversities of families in order to validate them as the primary support for children and their learning. Students will articulate the role of the educator in establishing and maintaining strong reciprocal relationships with families that are compatible with ethical and professional obligations. They will explore and practice engaging strategies that highlight the development of communication skills and emphasize collaboration with families. As future educators, students will engage in self-reflection to understand the significance of their role in working with families in early learning settings.

This modified for CICE students course will examine the evolution of early learning and care as a profession and the repositioning of the role of the educator within that profession. Students will examine and critique the documents that shape the profession in order to explore the changing professional and social image of the child, the educator and the profession. They will analyze their professional practices and through a process of self-reflection will examine the impact of those practices on their emerging professional identity. In addition, they will create a professional development plan that recognizes documented abilities, professional interests and a commitment to continuous learning.

Through examining developmental theory, this modified course expands on the study of child development from infancy through school-age. Students will deepen their understanding of development along the continuum, self-regulation, and stress responses. They will consider diversity, equity, and inclusion and challenge socially constructed views of development, behaviour and ability. Through classroom discussion, students will analyze developmental characteristics of children and articulate the ways in which these characteristics interconnect and contribute to a child's holistic development. They will apply these considerations to their approach to planning for an inclusive curriculum for individuals and groups of children.

Through a lens of professional relationship building and communication, in this modified CICE course students will examine the roles and responsibilities of the Educational Assistant as a member of the multi-disciplinary educational team. In this introduction modified course to digital imaging, students will learn fundamental camera operation with a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. Focus, composition and exposure will form the groundwork that will combine with other technical aspects to provide students with a strong foundation of practical imaging skills. This modifed course is designed to develop the ability of the participant to intervene in conflict and crisis situations with competence and confidence. The conflict situation will be examined from its inception through intervention by either police or other law enforcement agencies. Various problem-solving skills and non-violent intervention techniques are discussed along with intervention strategies directed toward specific incidents. Behaviour patterns that may lead to violent encounters are analyzed and the appropriate legal responses to these encounters are learned. These responses emphasize both officer and public/client safety through awareness and preparation.
