This unique course provides students with an opportunity to apply the strategies developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). A capstone project will require students to prepare reports outlining mitigation strategies in various industry sectors for contemporary climate issues.

Program outcomes

  1. Design and implement resource surveys and sampling programs, including statistical analysis of environmental data to support climate change analysis.
  2. Interpret and apply international, national and regional level environmental and climate policy to support mitigation and adaptation strategies.
  3. Analyze environmental data using GIS and remote sensing software to model climate scenarios.
  4. Research and critique the strategies and technology of waste management and energy systems in the industrial, commercial, institutional and residential sectors to identify opportunities for improvement.
  5. Develop comprehensive strategies that address causes of climate change to manage its social, political, and environmental impact.
  6. Apply an integrated ecosystem management approach to climate change to balance mitigation, intervention and adaptation strategies.
  7. Facilitate stakeholder engagement, communication and collaboration across governments, industries and the community to promote engagement in innovative climate mitigation initiatives.
  8. Evaluate and apply quantification methods to compile a Greenhouse Gas inventory.
  9. Assess and manage the major categories of climate change risks to develop risk management strategies.
