Academic handbook

The material in this handbook is accurate at the date of posting and is applicable for the current academic year. Academic school handbooks are updated yearly and students must check for the current edition.

Program Advisory Committee (PAC)

PAC members are composed of employers, practitioners and recent program graduates. College representatives (students, faculty, and administrators) are resource persons. Each committee advises the Board on the development of new programs, the monitoring of existing programs and community acceptance of programs.

Career Development Partnerships

Opportunity for paid education and a job waiting upon graduation! Unique recruitment model through our Magna Centre for Supply Chain Excellence at Conestoga where employers are paying wages, in some cases tuition, mentoring, training and grooming students for a position in their firm on graduation.

  • DHL, an international logistics company, will recruit students in the Supply Chain and Operations Management (SCOM) program for entry level supply chain positions with their firm.
  • Full time students currently in Level 2 of the Supply Chain and Operations Management (Non-Co-op and Co-op streams) program at Conestoga College are eligible to apply.
  • DHL will select a student(s) from among the applicants following their normal selection process.
  • The chosen student(s) will be offered paid employment with DHL in one of their facilities while they complete the SCOM program at Conestoga College.
    • Employment will include offers of part-time work hours during school semesters, and full-time work hours between school semesters (summer) and during school breaks throughout the year.
  • On-the-job training and mentoring will occur at DHL through their Management Training Program in various aspects of supply chain management, reinforcing the SCOM program classroom teaching.
  • The intention of this program is to build a long-term relationship between the student employee and DHL. To that end, student employees may receive an offer of full-time employment* to continue that relationship after graduation.
  • In the event that economic conditions become unfavourable, resulting in employee layoffs at DHL, DHL will have no option but to release the student from their employment. The rationale is clear, DHL cannot continue to pay a student employee while full-time employees are being laid off.
  • Similarly, in the event that economic conditions become unfavourable, DHL is not bound to make an offer of full-time employment to their student upon graduation from the SCOM program. In this instance the student has still benefited from a work-education collaborative learning program with an international company, has benefited from paid employment for two years of their study, and graduates job ready with real workplace experience.
  • To maintain eligibility of employment with DHL, the student must maintain a total GPA of greater than 2.5 (65%) in their academic studies, with no course failures. The student will be required to provide DHL with a copy of their transcript at the end of each school semester. DHL maintains the right to override the academic eligibility criteria at their discretion, notwithstanding any Co-op Regulations and Guidelines that must be maintained. Additionally, student employees will be measured on punctuality, attendance, engagement, initiative, cooperation, and on the job performance.
  • DHL management will appraise the student employee on their overall performance at the end of each school semester upon receipt of the student's academic transcript, in addition to any required Co-op evaluations.
  • It is recognized that the recruitment and selection process is not fool-proof. Mismatches do occur from time to time. In the event that either party (student or DHL) feels that the relationship is not working out, a written notice of withdrawal from the arrangement is to be presented to the other party at least one month prior to the end of the semester. The notice should include reasons for the notice of withdrawal. It is expected that both parties will fulfill their obligation to the other to the end of the current semester. It is also expected that both parties will try and resolve any potential issues in an effort to keep the student employed at DHL.
  • Notwithstanding, students must follow all Conestoga College academic policies and procedures, and if they are co-op students, follow all Co-op Regulations and Guidelines.
* An offer of full-time employment upon graduation may be in the form of an extended contract. 
  • Karmax Heavy Stamping in Milton, Ontario, a Magna International company, will recruit students in the Supply Chain and Operations Management program for entry level supply chain positions with their firm.
  • Full-time students currently in Level 2 of the Supply Chain and Operations Management (Non-Co-op and Co-op streams) program at Conestoga College are eligible to apply.
  • Karmax will select a student(s) from among the applicants following their normal selection process.
  • The chosen student(s) will be offered paid employment with Karmax Heavy Stamping while they complete the SCOM program at Conestoga College.
    • Employment will include offers of part-time work hours during school semester, and full-time work hours between school semesters (summer) and during school breaks throughout the year.
  • In addition, Karmax will provide the student employee(s) with a lump sum payment equal to the amount of their tuition**. This will be done for program years two and three toward completion of the SCOM program only.
    • Note: Students who withdraw from the Supply Chain and Operations Management program before completing it are also withdrawing from the Career Development Partnership initiative. Further, students who have received one or more tuition payments from Karmax as part of the Career Development Partnership initiative, and subsequently decide to withdraw from the Career Development Partnership initiative or the Supply Chain and Operations Management program before completing it, will be required to repay the total amount of tuition received from Karmax Heavy Stamping.

** Karmax will provide a lump sum equal to domestic full-time program tuition fees only. The amount will not include additional fees, books and/or supplies associated with their studies. The student will provide Karmax with evidence of their tuition paid in order to receive the lump sum payment.
