Global Hospitality Management (Optional Co-op)

Program details

Credential: 1-Year Ontario College Graduate Certificate

This one-year graduate certificate program builds on prior education to prepare students with management skills specific to the global hospitality industry.

With a strong focus on operations and business practices, students explore management perspectives while gaining advanced knowledge and skills in finance, human resources, sustainable hospitality operations, and event management.

Graduates possess a TrainCan Basics Food Safety certificate, a Smart Service certificate and a WHMIS certificate and are prepared to demonstrate management skills including leadership and sound decision-making to support business objectives in the global hospitality industry.

Student availability & wage data

Conestoga College facilitates recruitment on an ongoing basis - there are no hard deadlines. Typical time frames for work terms are listed below.

Postings are accepted beginning four months before the start of a term until all students have secured employment provided the minimum 12 consecutive weeks of full-time work is met.

Conestoga College collects data on hourly wages of co-operative education students and offers suggested ranges as a service to employers for the purpose of establishing fair and competitive compensation.

Our experience has been that employers increase wages as skills increase, particularly when employing students for more advanced work terms. The Co-operative Education Office can provide assistance to employers in establishing appropriate wage rates.

Work term capabilities

  • Recommend corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility and ethical practices to support business initiatives
  • Perform effectively as a leader and professional in interactions with peers, co-workers, supervisors, customers and industry partners
  • Employ technological tools and strategies including relevant hospitality and business systems to support business functions and decisions
  • Examine the influence of international cuisines on the North American hospitality industry
  • Develop food and public health safety protocols and practices to manage a hospitality business with consideration to the nature and context of the particular hospitality environment
  • Recommend strategies that develop and optimize human resources in domestic and international hospitality organizations
  • Plan, develop, market and manage hospitality establishments in the international marketplace using contemporary management concepts
  • Understand and conform to provincial, national and international legislation regulating the operation and management of international hospitality environments
  • Apply revenue management decisions based upon the analysis of financial information for short- and long-term activities in the hospitality industry
