Meet the 2023 academic staff representative candidates. (presented in alphabetical order by first name)
Daniela Lee, School of Business
I have been employed by Conestoga College since 2017 becoming a full-time faculty member and Program Coordinator for the OHSW program in 2019. However, my history with Conestoga dates back to early 90's. During my first OHS role after graduating from University of Guelph, I worked at Victoria Hospital in London and traveled to Conestoga every week to complete the OHS certificate program.
My decision to serve on the college's Board of Governors is a personal one which I outline in the following:
I am very passionate about education, and I believe serving on the Board will provide an opportunity to contribute to the college's overall mission of applied learning and research excellence and ultimately make a positive impact on student lives and our community.
As a board member I will have the honour to advocate for the needs and interests of students and faculty members by shaping policies and initiatives that promote our college values of being student focused, innovative, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.
To this position I bring over 25 years of industry experience serving as a Health and Safety professional and consultant in various national and international companies (health care, long-term care, high-tech, manufacturing, transportation) including my role at Blackberry, where I pioneered the Health and Safety program as an individual contributor with this position growing to overseeing a global department managing Safety, Health, Wellness, Disability Management, Facilities, and Business Continuity. This experience has provided me a rich network of entrepreneurs and HR professionals in the KW region which I continue to foster to keep current and understand community and industry needs. In the middle of my career, I returned to school as a mature student to obtain my B.Ed. specializing in Urban Diversity. This focus on Cultural Pedagogy and how to infuse Equity, Diversity and Social Justice into teaching practice has been invaluable in my teaching at Conestoga College.
I trust my passion and the skills that can contribute will be of interest to the Board.
Thank you for your consideration.
Darryl LeBrun, School of Workforce Development, Continuing Education & Online Learning
I am announcing my candidacy for a Conestoga College Board of Governors position. As a dedicated member of the Conestoga College community, I am committed to upholding the values and vision that make our college thrive. A firm believer of "What we do here, counts out there", I am passionate about the prosperity and well-being of our college community, and will contribute towards a positive impact that serves our community's needs. I welcome the opportunity to bring this passion combined with my valuable experience in strategic planning, management, and organizational leadership to the Board of Governors.
I believe that we can foster a sense of ownership and pride in our shared goals by continuing our college's strong culture based on student focus, collaboration, accountability, inclusivity, active dialogue, and innovation. This can be achieved through fostering transparency, accountability, and open communication. As a board member, I will actively collaborate with fellow governors and stakeholders on the policies and initiatives that address the diverse needs of our community.
I request your support and trust in electing me to the Board of Governors. If elected, I promise to serve with integrity, dedication, and commitment to the betterment of our community. Together, we can shape a prosperous future for our organization and empower every member to reach their fullest potential.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and our community.
Darryl LeBrun
Shankha Bhattacharyya, School of Business
I have been a Conestoga faculty member since 2016, when I began teaching part time in the School of Business. My journey since then has been one of complete professional fulfillment.
I accepted a full-time role in 2018 and currently teach Accounting in the School of Business. I am also the Program Coordinator (designate) for the soon to be launched Professional Accounting program. During this period of time, I have worked cooperatively across several departments and built enduring collaborative relationships.
My candidacy in the upcoming Board of Governors elections is a step in the same direction, where I would like to apply my collaborative skills and governance experience.
My governance experience arises from being a volunteer Board member with KidsAbility Foundation, which is a not-for-profit organization supporting therapeutic care for children. I have been in this position for two years now and have gained reasonable experience in governance functions. No conflict of interest would arise with KidsAbility with me pursuing this candidacy with the Board of Governors at our college.
In order to make an informed decision, if there is anything else you would like to discuss, please reach out to me.
Based on the above background, I am seeking your vote in the upcoming Board of Governors election for the Academic category.
Elections will be held online, during June 19-22, 2023 where you will have the opportunity to cast your vote in my favour.
