Program description - May 2023

The demand for community-based, health-care services has never been higher. This 8-month Ontario College Certificate is ideal for you if who would like to assume a front-line role in a medical, dental, or wellness office, or a clerical support role in long-term care or the insurance industry. You will gain a working knowledge of the medical terminology, computer technologies and office practices that are vital components of today's busy medical, dental and wellness offices. Through hands-on application with industry Electronic Medical Records software (EMR) and a simulated work environment, you will learn medical and wellness office tasks such as patient scheduling, billing, and medical document production, as well as hone your professional verbal, written communication and customer service skills. When you successfully complete the Medical Office Practices certificate, you may choose to apply to the second year of the Health Office Administration diploma with advanced standing. Space in the second year of the Health Office Administration program may be limited; if you wish to complete the diploma you are encouraged to apply directly to that program to ensure acceptance to second year. Interested in taking this program on a part-time basis? It's possible to complete this program while still working full-time and fulfilling your other commitments. For more information, please visit our Continuing Education Medical Office Practices program.

Note:

Students that successfully complete the Medical Office Practices (1308) certificate program are eligible to apply to level 3 of the Health Office Administration (1047) diploma program. Space in the Health Office Administration program is limited and transfer applicants are not guaranteed a seat in the program. Depending on the number of applications and the number of available seats, a ranking process may be used.
