Program overview
This three-year program:
- is designed to satisfy the educational requirements to register as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and aligns curriculum with the National Competency Framework for Respiratory Therapy.
- is nationally accredited by Accreditation Canada - EQual.
- is fully integrated and has a diverse learning environment which uses classroom education, laboratory sessions, clinically immersive simulation, e-learning, and early clinical exposure.
- level 5 and 6 Work-integrated learning (WIL) experiences take place at our health-care partner sites throughout Southern Ontario.
- has hands-on practical assessments, intentionally designed to prepare you for real-world expectations.
Working in respiratory therapy
Respiratory Therapists:
- specialize in identifying and treating cardiopulmonary disorders.
- are an integral part of the critical care team and provide services such as ventilation and airway management, suction therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and aerosol therapy, patient assessment and evaluation.
- bring expertise to community settings such as community care, complex care, asthma and COPD education, rehabilitation, education and medical equipment sales.
- work in a physically and emotionally demanding environment. Work environments vary, but generally include:
- long work hours (12-hour shifts, including night shifts).
- being on your feet for long periods of time.
- participating in physical activities such as CPR and lifting/positioning patients.
- being involved in emotionally stressful situations with critically ill patients.

- This is a highly competitive program. Apply by February 1 (for September). See oversubscribed programs for more information.
- Students living outside of Ontario are not eligible to apply.
