Program description - May 2025

If you are interested in working in an active environment where you will have an opportunity to impact the quality of life for children and adults with communication disorders, this one-year (3 terms) Ontario College Graduate certificate program is well suited for you.

Communicative disorders assistants play a key role in supporting speech-language pathologists and audiologists to implement and monitor established treatment programs, support screening and assessment of hearing and speech function, and maintain equipment or therapy materials used to facilitate communication skills. Through a combination of theory lectures, immersive simulation experiences, highly engaging hands-on small group lab learning with specialized equipment in our state-of-the art hearing instrument specialist lab, you will be able to develop the knowledge, practical skills and judgement required to carry out treatment plans developed by registered speech-language pathologists or audiologists.

Meaningful field placement experiences are integrated into the program to help you translate theoretical knowledge from the classroom into applied practice within a workplace setting. At the completion of this program, you will be well prepared for employment in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, adult rehabilitation and children's treatment centres, long term care facilities or, in private speech or audiology clinics, school boards, day cares and retail hearing specialist services.

Conestoga is proud to be recognized by the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada. Students and graduates of this program are eligible for membership with CDAAC, the only organization dedicated to Communicative Disorders Assistants across Canada.
