Women in Skilled Trades - WIST

Conestoga is pleased to offer the 34-week Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship certificate program. This program is funded by the Government of Ontario and is tuition-free. WIST offers 26 weeks of in-school, hands-on training with an 8-week paid work placement. Jill of All Trades

In conjunction with the School College Work Initiative – Grand Connection Regional Planning Team, Conestoga hosts a day-long event to inspire young women in grades 9 to 12 to pursue education and careers in trades and technology. Approximately 200 female students from eight local school boards attend. The event includes an array of hands-on workshops led by female mentors to help young women develop a better understanding of the potential of skilled trades careers.

TNT Day

Trades and Technology "TNT" Day activities provide female students in grades 7 to 10 with various hands-on activities related to different careers in the in the construction, industrial, motive power, engineering and architectural industries.

What a Difference a Decade Makes

Representatives from the Ontario Women's Directorate, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and Skills Canada joined in with students, graduates, faculty, staff and industry partners to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) program in General Carpentry at Conestoga.

 

Skills Work!® Summer Camp (All Girls)

Exploring Careers in Skilled Trades and Technologies, One Hands-on Activity at a Time

Skills Work!® Summer Camp at Conestoga College is a week-long day program for girls entering grades seven and eight. Through hands-on activities relevant to the skilled trades, campers develop communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Campers take part in hands-on counselor and industry-led workshops in the industrial, construction, motive power, services and technology sectors; they explore careers in skilled trades through interactive games, industry tours and entrepreneurship programs.
